I’ll be happy when…
Have you ever said that or had that thought? It seems we sometimes put off happiness based on future events or wants. I’ll be happy when I get a better job, make more money, lose some weight, get a new car and the list goes on. But happiness should not be a future event. Nor should it be based on someone else or something else. Happiness should never be dependent on external circumstances. True happiness is a life well lived in the present. Life unfolds in the present and that is where we should be happy – in the moment.
Happiness can only come from within. No one else is responsible for our happiness. Happiness comes from our inner thoughts and feelings and a happy life starts inside of us.
In The 9 Choices of Happy People, authors Rick Foster and Greg Hicks wrote; “”Intention is the active desire and commitment to be happy. It’s the decision to consciously choose attitudes and behaviors that lead to happiness over unhappiness.”
Tell everyone you know: “My happiness depends on me, so you’re off the hook.” And then demonstrate it. Be happy, no matter what they’re doing. Practice feeling good, no matter what. And before you know it, you will not give anyone else responsibility for the way you feel — and then, you’ll love them all. Because the only reason you don’t love them, is because you’re using them as your excuse to not feel good. ~ Abraham
